They came for an evening of conversation with the Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD), Germany’s leading far-right party. To one camp, this meeting represented a call for political change; to the other, a risk to German democracy. The AfD has officially tried to distance itself from the reports, saying it was not an official party meeting. But the AfD knows it has a struggle on its hands, as opponents of the party vow to keep protesting.

A weekly poll conducted by the INSA institute for the Bild am Sonntag newspaper showed 73% of respondents were dissatisfied with the federal government. "The coalition falls to 34%, 18 percentage points less than in the 2021 federal election," said INSA's head Hermann Binkert. "At the moment it does not look like the SPD or the Greens will be able to lead the government after the 2025 general election."

The trip comes amid rising voices within Scholz's ruling coalition calling for a rethink of Germany's China policy, and growing public concern about Berlin's commercial reliance on the global economic powerhouse. One in two Germans wish that Germany's economy could be more independent from China, a survey published by ARD broadcaster showed on Thursday. China has been Germany's biggest trading partner for the past six years, with volumes reaching over 245 billion euros ($238.9 billion) in 2021. During the trip, where Scholz will meet Xi and prime minister Li Keqiang, the German Chancellor is expected to discuss Russia's war in Ukraine, hoping that China can convince Russia to end hostilities. But Xi expressed his concerns over Ukraine to Russian President Vladimir Putin when the two leaders met in September.

De asemenea, a fost acordată permisiunea de a furniza arme în Qatar (305,1 milioane de euro), Emiratele Arabe Unite (51,3 milioane), Kuweit (23,4 milioane) şi Turcia (22,9 milioane), potrivit Agerpres. Sumele totalizează 1,16 miliarde de euro, potrivit ministerului. În Yemen, o alianţă condusă de Arabia Saudită împreună cu guvernul de la Sana'a luptă împotriva rebelilor huthi susţinuţi de Iran.
